Chasing Sirens
I’m not the king of romancing
But I’ve got this way of slow dancing
Around the edges
I could do without the confusion
So please excuse this intrusion
Or I’ll always wonder
What I meant to you on those nights we cuddled and cried
How does it feel to be running away in your golden shoes?
When I’m like Mercury at your heels
I’ll catch you on the curve, with the wind you will lose.
I’ll shout down any divinity
To meet you beyond infinity
Where like a bug
I’ll see right through you
Shine a light
I’ll crawl right to you
I took a course in life’s lessons
I suffered therapeutic sessions,
As to why you lingered
I’ll smile at you when you wake up
Cause I can’t afford to break up
Or I’m six foot under
Where forevermore my memory would cry
How does it feel, to be running away in your golden shoes?
When I’m like Mercury at your heels
I’ll catch you on the curve, with the wind you will lose
I’m racing a train slipping down that track
On a leap of faith you’re calling back
Cause you’re the princess
And I’m the hero
I steal a kiss
On the count of zero
Please take my gift
It’s a ball of emotion
A tender tear
That drips from an ocean
