House of Cards
I had a career I was working for the man he gave me everything
Employee of the month, a car and a house, high commission
I had me a wife who liked my style. She liked security
We knew one day we would make it big . . . that was our dream
Woe, Woe
And now I have nothing
I’m the one who lost the race
Gone is the sofa
I’m in an empty space
But that gives me the freedom
Where before I was blind
Now I see nothing
Which means that dark world is behind me
Soon, I’m gonna take this day
And make my way
So here I am with wounded heart, busking for quarters
You wonder where I spend my nights . . . well, so do I
I thank you for your attention, it’s more than a weekly check
I wish you good luck with your life, wish me luck with mine
Woe, Woe
And now I know nothing
I’ve been put in place
I’m trying to smile
Just to save my grace
And pick up the pieces
Coming out of the cold
And shake all this sorrow
Trying to find my soul
I’ve gotta take this day
And make my way
[instrumental]
We’re fragile and fleeting
Like a house of cards
But we can reshuffle
And rebuild from the shards
Soon, I’m gonna take this day
And make my way
